The First Central and Eastern European Conference on Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (CEEC-TAC)

Craiova, Romania, September 7-10, 2011

The Conference The First Central and Eastern Europe Conference on Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (CEEC-TAC) was held on September 7–10, 2011, at the University of Craiova. Craiova is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Romania. The Conference was attended by more than 300 scientists from all over the world (Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Russia, the USA, Japan, Austria, Great Britain, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Lithuania, Korea, China, Poland, etc.). It was organized by Andrei Rotaru, a 20-year old Romanian pursuing his doctoral degree in Scotland and a son of the Dean of the University of Craiova.

The opening ceremony was organized at the premises of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Craiova and it was followed by a cocktail party. Conference participants were welcomed by Andrei Rotaru, who also presented a brief overview of Conference programme. TA instruments and Netzsch were the general sponsors of the Conference, and they were accompanied by about twenty minor sponsors. The Conference featured more than twenty plenary and invited lectures and about 150 poster presentations.

CEEC-TAC was dedicated to the presentation and summing up of recent results and new trends in thermal analysis (new equipment and new materials applicable in DTA and DSC analyses, calorimetry and microcalorimetry). All of the conference participants have made a significant contribution to the development of this field of research and the organizers did not fail to meet high quality standards. The next CEEC-TAC Conference will be held in Vilnius, Lithuania.

The representative of the Institute of Technical Sciences of SASA, Dr. Nina Obradović, was an invited speaker at CEEC-TAC. She delivered the lecture titled Dehydration kinetics investigation on refractory concrete during sintering using DTA method, authored by N. Obradović, A. Terzić, Lj. Pavlović, S. Filipović, V. Pavlović. She was also the chairperson of the session dedicated to mechanical activation and alloying (her primary fields of interest).

Along with numerous contacts with (Jaroslav Šestak, Petru Rotaru), the collaboration with Mrs Judit Simon, the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry was established. The paper presented at the conference by Dr. Nina Obradović has already been accepted for publication in this journal N. Obradović, A. Terzić, Lj. Pavlović, S. Filipović, V. Pavlović, Dehydration investigations of a refractory concrete using DTA method, Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry, DOI: 10.1007/s10973-011-1880-3).
