Dr. Darko Kosanović, Principal Research Fellow, stayed at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA, as a postdoctoral researcher in the group of Prof. Dr. William Fahrenholtz. During his one-year stay (2022-2023), he participated in a project funded by the U.S. Air Force (FA9550-22-1-0064: Hypersonic Materials Production Program, U.S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research, led by Dr. Scott McCormack, University of California, Davis).

As a visiting scientist, he was part of the Ultra-High Temperature Ceramics Research Group under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Fahrenholtz. He was involved in research in two areas: the densification and characterization of zirconium diboride ceramics and the analysis of the mechanical properties of zirconium diboride ceramics. His project tasks also included training in the use of various characterization instruments and mechanical testing for ultra-high temperature ceramics. Special attention was paid to hot pressing.

During his time at the Missouri University of Science and Technology, Dr. Darko Kosanović had the opportunity to meet and collaborate with professors and scientists from around the world. Apart from Dr. Suzana Filipović and Dr. Nina Obradović (colleagues from ITS SASA), he worked with colleagues from the UHTC group: the Director of the Materials Research Center, Prof. Dr. Fahrenholtz, Prof. Dr. Gregory E. Hilmas, Dr. Jeremy Lee Watts, Dr. Paul M. Brune, Steven Smith, Dr. Arianit Reka, and others.

During his stay in the USA, Dr. Darko Kosanović presented his research results at the 47th International Conference and Exposition on Advanced Ceramics and Composites (January 22-27, 2023, Daytona Beach).
