Dr. Lana Popović Maneski presented two papers at the IFESS conference, held in Bath, UK, on 1-3 September 2024: AI-Powered FES Walking for Gait Rehabilitation After Stroke and Muscle’s Force Profile-Based Stimulation for Motorized FES-Cycling.
She had the opportunity to meet colleagues and learn about the latest advancements in rehabilitation and daily assistance for individuals affected by stroke, spinal cord injury (SCI), multiple sclerosis (MS), cerebral palsy (CP), and Parkinson's disease. Of particular interest were the new approaches combining non-invasive spinal cord stimulation (SCS) with exercise to restore upper extremity motion in SCI patients. These findings could pave the way for new research into combining SCS and functional electrical stimulation (FES) for potential gait facilitation in stroke patients.
During the IFESS General Assembly, it was announced that starting next year, a new award will be introduced in honor of the late Academician Dejan Popovic, one of the founders of the IFESS society, to recognize outstanding work in translating research into practice.
