Research areas

The main research interests of Nenad Filipović are focused on biomaterials, from the synthesis and characterization, through interaction with biological entities, and finally application. In particular, these include micro- and nano- biodegradable systems for the controlled delivery of versatile active components, designing and functionalization of the scaffolds for tissue engineering, and development of the theranostic platforms for simultaneous cell therapy and enhanced imaging. From the material aspect, Nenad’s research involves the study of biodegradable polymers (both synthetic and natural), metallic and metallic-like nanoparticles, natural bioactive compounds, composite materials, and hydrogels. In addition,  Nenad is especially interested in the antimicrobial and anticancer activity of nanomaterials and their composites.
